2010 Yamaha T-Max in white
The Yamaha T-Max is turning ten and Yamaha has created a T-Max 500 White for 2010 to honour the occasion. The maxi-scooter was a revolution for touring scooters in the two-wheel world, combining a mix of technology and comfort that seemed to be just the right balance in the market.
While large and comfortable, it also has enough agility and manoeuvrability to be classified as a scooter, appealing to the European scootering public in particular. The T-Max 500 White Max 2010 includes the following features:
* TMAX WHITE MAX, 10th anniversary edition
* Great midrange, 4-stroke, 2-cylinder 499cc engine
* Light, easy-handling die-cast aluminium chassis
* Large 15inch wheels for great stability
* Double front disc brakes with 4-piston callipers
* Luxurious finishes for extra comfort and style
* Sporty yet comfortable suspension
Possible Yamaha T-Max 750 three cylinder for 2010
According to Motociclismo.es Yamaha has started projects for a three cylinder engine for a new development on its sports T-Max 500 scooter.
The development is taking place on the current engine base: the T-Max 500 cc twin cylinder, with a third piston rod with anti-vibration function. That third rod would subsequently make way for a full-blown third cylinder, increasing power to 750cc.
With the necessary modifications, the new three cylinder engine would be integrated onto the scooter with no problems, while the final transmission would be strengthened to match the greater power output. Suspension would also be updated.
The new Yamaha scooter would then be called T-Max 750 and could be ready for presentation come autumn. Production and sales are planned for the end of 2010. The images in this post are from designer J.M Guerin.
Honda prepares anti T-Max maxi scooter for Milan show
According to the Spanish magazine, Solomoto30, Honda has a big surprise in store for the Eicma show in Milan, starting next week on November 4.
The interesting news is that we could see a new maxi-scooter appear, providing some competition to Yamaha’s highly successful T-Max. For the look, some stylistic elements are likely to come from previous concept models, such as the E4-01 or the GRF-1 presented in 2005. Technically, it will likely adopt more conventional solutions, as the GRF-1 for example, has a four-cylinder boxer engine, and two LCD screens in the place of the rear vision mirrors.
Other news is on its way from Honda at the Eicma show, which is set to be a big event in the European motorcycle market.

KYMCO Downtown 300i
Beyond much doubt, KYMCO has been upping its game lately by adding more modern technology and contemporary styling to its U.S. offerings. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the arrival of the four-valve, fuel-injected Downtown 300i. The totally new liquid-filled 299cc lightweight engine allows this well-equipped tourer to tip the scales at only 367 pounds, fully 40 pounds lighter than its smaller displacement brand mate, the Xciting 250. Predictably, this strong and light combo adds up to flashy initial acceleration, improved gas mileage, and highly responsive handling at low speeds.
A distinctive trademark KYMCO color, burnt orange, returns on the Downtown 300i. The model is also offered in two subtler tones, pearl white and silver.
The impressive features list easily qualifies this scooter as a capable midrange tourer. Amenities include spacious, lighted under-seat storage large enough to stow two helmets, a broad, high-visibility fairing featuring a striking lighting array, and a water-tight console compartment with a 12v electrical outlet for cell phone charging. Bottom line, a thoroughly modern feature set.
With a 14-inch front wheel and a 13-inch rear wheel, this middleweight maxi should feel right at home heading through the corners in just about any downtown. But its name can be a bit deceiving, as clearly this model was designed to be equally adept on the open road. Either way, as the lyrics to the 1960s Petula Clark song go, “You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go Downtown.”

Now, things are starting to get interesting here! On our routine web mining, MotoBlog.it via 1000Scooters reveled some rather surprising facts. KTM is preparing it’s own Maxi scooter! Apparently rumors started couple months back when someone mentioned that Kawasaki is preparing a scooter for it’s lineup – but now KTM is coming strongly with 1000cc mean machine!
KTM’s Maxi scooter is dubbed SC-DUKE by chance, as it shares the engine with Super Duke, one of the most recognizable streetfighter bikes in the World. This part is giving us goose bumps – 999cc twin-cylinder engine will yield 98HP and maximum torque of 90Nm!!! Totally mental, and yet the only way KTM can do it. Bravo.
Closest competitors to this extraordinary KTM Maxi scooter are Gilera GP800 and Yamaha T-Max. Still nowhere near the potential of the KTM. (Yamaha 500cc ~40HP, Gilera 850cc ~75hp). Obviously, power is being reduced from the ratings of Super Duke, and the whole engine is coupled with sequential gearbox. SC-Duke will have driving mode selector named COR – as in C-ity, O-pen, R-oad. You will be able to choose which mode suits you best.
Moreover, the rest of mechanical parts of this super-scooter are equally impressive. Chassis is a combination of traditional steel trellis frame with aluminum subframe, brakes are two front 320mm discs with 4 piston Brembo calipers and 17″ wheels with 180mm rear tire.

Gilera GP 800
Now Spanish language scooter website Soloscooter (English Translation) is making similar claims which make for interesting reading. The site believes the scooter named Ducati Scootster (as in Scooter Monster) will be a V-twin of around 850cc capacity delivering 100bhp via a sequential, clutch-less transmission with a maintenance free toothed belt final drive. Just as Mr Lee argued the scooter would be quite sporty with plenty of aluminum and 16″ wheels. Soloscooter offers two renditions of how the new model might look, including one by the ubiquitous Oberdan Bezzi.

Suzuki Burgman Sport-Scooter
Well, Suzuki has been trying to spice up its Burgman 400 super scooter and make it more attractive to younger, more style-conscious buyers. The big maxi-scooter is presently sold-out in the US, but the median age of the typical Burgman buyer hovers right around 45 years old. Much like those who sleep with fat women!
